The first Brazilian label to release albums as apps
Why are you putting your music on Spotify?
Being available is not the same as being heard. On streaming your album is one in a hundred million and each play returns less than a cent. There is another way out: your album as an app, on the phone of people who already like you.
How to send your materialWhat an app label is
Today a label and a distributor do the same thing: they put your album on streaming, next to a hundred million others, and split with you whatever the algorithm leaves. An app label publishes your album as its own app on the App Store and Google Play, gives you a purchase page with Pix and card to take to your shows and your social media, and handles payment, email and support. The recording, the rights and the relationship with the fan stay yours. AlbumApp is the first in Brazil to do it.
Do the math
Every band pays for ads so that someone listens. Do the math on what comes back when that someone lands on streaming, and when they land on your app.
4,000 people listen. Assumption: R$ 0.50 per listener reached, and every listener sent to the app downloads the free app.
Return on the budget: 2% · 319%
Assumptions: each person listens to the album once (10 plays); streaming pays about R$ 1 per thousand plays, what a Brazilian band actually received (84,000 plays, R$ 82); on the app path every listener downloads the free app and the percentage above buys the album; AlbumApp passes 80% of the price to the band.
How it works
- 1
You send a link, we listen
A link to the album and a few lines about the band: where you play, who already follows you. No attachments.
- 2
If it joins the catalog, you deliver the material
WAV or FLAC masters, cover, credits, lyrics and the liner notes. In Portuguese and, if you like, in English.
- 3
The label builds and publishes the app
An app named and branded after the album, on both stores, published by AlbumApp. You need no Apple or Google account.
- 4
Fans download it for free and buy on the web
They play the open track with no sign-up. For the rest, they leave an email, pay by Pix or card on the album page, and the app downloads everything.
The purchase stays outside the stores on purpose: that is what lets us pass 80% to the band instead of the 70% left after the Apple or Google commission.
What the fan gets
Lossless audio
FLAC straight from the masters, not a compressed stream.
Truly offline
The album lives on the phone. Planes, roads, bad signal.
Plays like an album
Gapless, in the order it was meant to be heard.
Anywhere
Lock screen, Bluetooth, headphones, car stereo.
Complete liner notes
Cover, photos, texts, per-track credits and lyrics.
Forever
No subscription. New phone, same email, download again.
In the catalog
The albums already released as apps. On each page you can play the free track.
The terms for albums in the catalog
R$ 300
per year, to keep the app published on the stores
20%
of each sale, payment fees included
The band keeps 80% of every album sold, with nothing deducted underneath. For comparison, a ticketing platform usually keeps 10% of the ticket. Here it is 20%, and the product is your album, which keeps earning after the show.
- You set the album price. R$ 39.90 is the starting point we suggest.
- Sales outside Brazil in US dollars, with an international card.
- Sales report per show and per link, so you know where each purchase came from.
- Two-year distribution agreement, renewable. The rights stay yours.
Who publishes
AlbumApp is a label run by EquipeAI, in São Paulo. The label signs a distribution agreement per album, publishes the app on the stores under its own name and handles payments, emails and listener support. The band handles the music. The catalog is small by choice: we release a few albums at a time, so that each app is done well.
What curation looks at
- A finished, mastered album, not a work in progress.
- A clear artistic direction, in the music and on the cover.
- An audience that already follows the band: shows, social media, a mailing list.
- Willingness to take the app to the stage and to social media, because the band is who presents the album to the fan.
How to send your material
bandas@albumapp.com.brOne email, with:
- A link to the whole album (Drive, SoundCloud, private Bandcamp). No attachments.
- Band name, city and the album title in the subject line.
- Where you played in the last year and where your audience follows you.
We listen to everything that arrives. If there is interest, we reply to the same email within three weeks with the next steps. We do not send individual feedback for albums that do not join.
